ABOUT THIS 5 MINUTE TEAL TYPHOON SMOOTHIE
I love finding ways to use up items in my fridge. Old items or produce going out of date. I had kiwis sitting in my fridge for so long they started wrinkling! You’ll find them featured in the smoothie images. At first was thinking I shouldn’t be using wrinkly kiwis in my images but I honestly love how real and raw they looked in a world full of impossible perfection and grocery store unnaturally uniform fruit. Taste is what matters at the end of the day anyways right!!? This recipe yields 1 large or 2 small smoothies.
ALTERNATIVES
Lemonade. Feel free to sub for your favorite juice or milk. Coconut milk would bring out some nice tropical flavors in the drink!
Fresh kiwi. Feel free to use frozen kiwi. I didn’t have my kiwi’s frozen prior to making the smoothie so mine was less of a classic frozen smoothie consistency. It’s all up to your personal preference and preference hats available to you at your local stores. Sprouts tends to almost year round have frozen kiwi in stock. Costco most of the time, especially in summer tends to have fresh kiwi.
PLANET FRIENDLY POINTS
Kiwis can actually be quite sustainable to produce! They don’t need many pesticides or much water. There’s not much waste because not only is their skin very thin, but you can actually eat the skin!
Most people including myself arent too fond of the fuzzy texture, but once you can get past it, you can start eating kiwis like apples! For the least waste, you can just plop the entire kiwi in your smoothie, as long as you’re ok with the blended up skin pieces! Golden kiwis actually have a smoother skin if you prefer not eating the green fuzzy ones.

RECIPE STEPS EXPLAINED
1 Add all ingredients to blender.
If you’re working with fresh whole kiwi, peel off the top skin at the pedicel or stigma (top of fruit where stem grew from) to reveal the green flesh about 1/3 of the way off the kiwi. Use a spoon to glide around the kiwi between the flesh and skin. Don’t press too hard to prevent from breaking the skin. If cutting the fresh kiwi in half, do the same thinking to scoop the green flesh out running the spoon around the kiwi between the flesh and skin.
Each kiwi equals approx 1/4c. So if you’re using pre chopped frozen kiwi, you’ll want to use 1/2cup for this recipe.
Also remember that any time you use fresh over frozen fruit it will become more liquidy over classic frozen smooth smoothie. Just depends what you have available and what your preference is.
If you want to play around with adding more blue spirulina and get an even deeper teal, then please do! But you have to show me your pictures of how it turned out!
2 Blend on high for 20-60 seconds depending on your blender.
You just want to make sure it’s nice and smooth! If you need, add more lemonade to get the fruit moving around the blender again.

EXPIRATION & STORAGE
I recommend eating smoothies fresh! You can definitely store them in the freezer for a couple weeks and eat later, but they will be a harder and different consistency so you might just wanna grab a spoon to eat it!
