About This 5 Minute Strawberry Coconut Smoothie

It’s super nice in December here in Nashville this year! Smoothies are still part of the daily routine on these kinds of days. I have a ton of frozen coconut and strawberries in the house that need to be eatin so I figure let’s do it! But you know it can’t just be any old regular 5 Minute Strawberry Coconut Smoothie. Hence the dash of blue spirulinal

Planet friendly

Blue spirulina is an extremely planet friendly ingredient! It absorbs large amounts of carbon dioxide, thus releasing lots of oxygen in return and requires little space to grow. When you’re choosing this vibrant blue ingredient, you’re encouraging more production which in the long run help contribute to a healthier planet. Here’s one of my favorite blue spirulina products and the one I used in this smoothie!

Alternatives

Honey instead of agave. It will change the flavor, but if it’s all you have or you prefer it’s taste then by all means!

Oat milk instead of coconut milk. I feel like you either love or hate coconut. If coconut milk is too much in the 5 Minute Strawberry Coconut Smoothie on top of the coconut milk, oat milk is the best alternative since it has more of a neutral flavor. It’s definitely the most popular milk in the shop besides regular whole milk. You need a richer milk for steaming so the coconut I use is full flavor and fat. This is recommended for full flavor smoothies and a richer feel. Here’s what we use in the shop.

Prep Warnings

Just make sure your fruit is nice and frozen for that thick smooth texture! Non frozen fruit will result in a more liquidy smoothie.

Step Tips & Notes

1 Add ingredients to blender.

Frozen strawberries have been huge lately from Costco! Go ahead and just grab them out. If you’re able to fit them in a measuring cup then go for it! For the frozen coconut I use Pitaya packs. It’s the best way to get coconut in your smoothies.

  • 4 tablespoons agave
  • 2 packs of frozen coconug meat (about 1/3 cup each pack)
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 16oz coconut milk (16oz with fruit already in the blender)
  • 1/4 teaspoon blue spirulina

2 Blend away!

I have a Vitamix that is pretty powerful. So my directions will adhere to this fact. Generally you want to blend on high for a shorter amount of time to get the pieces of fruit completely blended without getting liquidy. Your accurate liquid, in this case coconut milk amount will help ensure this as well.

Storage

Feel free to store your 5 Minute Strawberry Coconut Smoothie in the freezer. Best way to enjoy later is with a spoon and to treat it like a sorbet later since it won’t thaw into its original smoothie state. The smoothie won’t necessarily truly go bad in the freezer, but to enjoy at its peak flavor aim for eating it no later than a week.
